Our History

The East Logan Water District was started in 1979 with approximately 70 miles of line, one 200,000 gallon tank, and one booster pump station and served around 500 people. We purchased all of our water from the City of Russellville.

As of 1991, the East Logan Water District had grown, serving and maintaining approximately 200 miles of waterline ranging from 8" to 2". It purchased a new 220,000 gallon storage tank and a new booster pump station in addition to the other that is listed above. It served approximately 1350 customers in 1991.

The Water District’s main goal is to service all parts north and south in East Logan County and give them a safe drinking water supply.

In 2003, the District started purchasing water from the Logan Todd Regional Water Commission. It has the most modern treatment equipment available and an abundant supply of water. As of 2005, the East Logan Water District had approximately 250 miles of waterline ranging from 8” to 3”. The District had 3 storage tanks and served approximately 2619 customers. In 2008, the District had approximately 290 miles of waterline ranging from 8” to 3”. We have 3 storage tanks, have just installed a booster pump station, and serve approximately 2846 customers.

Our District added radios to the top of each of our water meters in late 2008 and early 2009. This feature enables us to more efficiently read water meters with a laptop that is installed in our truck. This computer shows us if there has been 24 hour usage on a water meter, thus helping us assist customers in keeping their water bill affordable. These radios also hold 45 days worth of history, further helping us assist customers in pinpointing when a leak may have started and how long it ran.

In 2011 we added approximately 1 mile of 12” ductile iron line on the east end of our District. This line is to help provide the eastern portion of the county with an abundant supply of water, so as to help Warren County if needed and to adequately supply water for any future industry that may move into the area. Currently, we serve 2913 customers.

Our future plans include setting up a sewer collection district in highly populated areas near the cities in our District.

We are in the process of making potable water available to every customer in our service area. We are proud of the progress we have made over the years and look forward to many more service years to come.
